Climbing Dolomites 2018

by Albert0 De Giuli, (Italian mountain guide )

“Hi All

I thank you again for the great time we all had.

WARNING! if you don’t have time to go trough all my bullshits I just finished writing please go straight to the end of it. There’s an important link .

When the weather is so nice, well the success is way more than 50% guarantee.

I think the trip was a pretty big challenge for all, also for the amount of days in a row without a “real” rest. And to be honest you guys impressed me quite a lot. *I would never imagined that mostly everybody would have managed to climb on approach shoes all those routes we did, *nobody really freaked out and that’s already important and a big achievement. So, well done to all the BAMs!

I was very happy the Yaron and Shel made it if only for half of the trip. We all missed you on the latter part guys!

You had the proof that nothing is impossible, and everything is controlled by the brain that is in the end the most sofisticated and real bitch of our body. The mind controls everything, the only way to improve is to work on it, and being rational as much as possible, not letting the emotions taking over. Tough times happen to the best as well, us guides included! And it’s good to overcome and take a breath of satisfaction when we go through them.

Recently I was talking to one of my clients, one of the firsts. He had 3 daughters, and since they were 10 yrs old we started to ski some pretty crazy shit where mistakes could be potentially very dangerous, almost life threating, where a guide can’t really give a big help. This is what I call commitment. If I know that you guys can do that, then it’s your time and go for it. We have all experienced the Commitment throughout our trip several times, in different dimensions. On the Selvaggio Blu, skiing, Patagonia…Marmolada last week.

Well, to go back to my client, we had a talk on the phone couple months ago and he told me: Albi, you know my girls now are 16, 21 and 23, and they have no fear of nothing on their lives, and this is also because of you and where we have skied together so far. And this made me so proud and happy.

I like to say you guys are “my/our creatures” , if I look back and see how we started …who would have ever imagined what we just accomplished? This is what has always given me a lot of energy and satisfations, because this means that we as guides have pushed you in the right direction. And this is immense value for a guide to keep the “flame” of passion (for what we do) burning.

Now that you know “how to ride the bike”, the only thing I can recommend you is: stay fit as much as you can! So you can ride the bike faster and with more control. Stamina are the key for living mountaineering adventures at their bests. Oxigen keeps your brain clear and relaxed, so to face fears for what they really are, so to go over difficult situations way more easy.

Now you know that we your guide will tell you “VIENI PURE!”, you know how to climb up. But keep the aerobical training high. Run, walk, ride the bike…that’s very important. And keep you guys always motivated because another adventure will be around the corner, and it’s good to be ready for it.

And finally…I stop talking.

Our pictures will be an amazing memory of a unique life experience we had together.

For me, this is the best one. And that’s us, a team of great friends, the most important thing. Yaron and Shel, you’re not on the pic, but I can see you guys on it anyway.

AMEN! (Love you guys)

Albi”
